Your First Digital Product Is Already in Your Head. Here’s How to Find It.

You do not need a new idea. You need to see the value in what you already know.

Finding your first digital product idea

Every woman I have worked with who said she did not know what her product would be found her answer within 20 minutes of the right conversation.

The problem is never a lack of knowledge. It is a lack of visibility — you cannot see what you have been living inside for years.

This post is that conversation. Let’s find your product.

“The thing you are going to sell already exists. It lives in your experience, your problems solved, your questions answered. We are just going to make it visible.”

Step 1 — Start With What You Know, Not What You Want to Teach

Most people approach product creation the wrong way: What do I want to teach? That question puts you in your head. Instead ask: What have I already figured out?

Sit with these questions and write down everything that comes up:

  • What do people ask me about — at work, at home, in group chats?
  • What did I figure out the hard way that I wish someone had just told me?
  • What process or system do I use that other people find overwhelming?
  • What did I teach myself because I could not find anyone else who had it figured out?

Step 2 — Check Your Three Sources

Job-Based Knowledge

What do you know from your career that someone new to your field would pay to learn? Not your title — your actual knowledge. The processes, the shortcuts, the things that took years to learn that you could now explain in an afternoon.

Life Experience

What have you navigated that someone else is still stuck in? Getting out of debt, managing a household and a career, building credit, navigating a career transition — these are all products. Real ones that real people need.

Self-Taught Knowledge

What did you go figure out on your own? The research you did, the system you built piece by piece? That journey is the product. Someone at the start of that journey would pay for the roadmap.

The 10-Minute Product Test

Take your topic. Ask: Is there someone 6-12 months behind me on this path? Could I save them 3 months of figuring it out? Would they pay $27-$97 to shortcut that timeline? If yes to all three — you have a product. Stop researching. Start building.

Step 3 — Name It and Price It

A product without a name and a price is still just an idea. Your name does not need to be clever — it needs to be clear. “Federal Resume Checklist.” “30 Days to Your First Digital Sale.” Clear beats clever every time.

Your starting price should feel slightly uncomfortable. If you are not a little nervous about the number, it is probably too low. Start at $27–$97 for your first product and raise it as sales and reviews come in.

“You do not need a perfect product. You need a done product — one that solves a real problem for a real person and is actually available to buy.”
